I still remember a youth group leader back in the day, telling us that masturbation was “addictive” and a”slippery slope”.
Then with the boys at Christian group making crude jokes about wanking, me knowing absolutely nothing girls and women masturbating, and why the clit was so important, so self-pleasuring was filled with a lot of shame for me for a long time.
It was something you joked about with side eyes, did in secret and as quickly as possible, then feel guilty and even slightly dirty afterwards.
(Notice the context here? Do you think this makes for a joyful and supportive relationship with your body and sexuality? FUCK NO!)
What changed it for me?
Learning that self-pleasuring is a life giving practise and that your sexual energy is life force energy.
Then being in places like tantra retreats and sexology training where it was actively celebrated.
Yum. MORE PLEASE! 🙌🏻
Now I know it’s an essential self-care practise, THE best way to get to know your body and love on yourself.
Sadly, the anti masturbation brigade is still vocal, as November is known as #NoNutNovember — aka a challenge by the #NoFap community to not masturbate, citing a mix of bogus pseudoscience and religious beliefs disguised as fact.
🙄🙄🙄
While it’s aimed primarily at men, women also take part or encourage their male partners to do it.
Please don’t do this to yourself, it will only hurt you.
Trying to compete with yourself to abstain only leads to serious issues further down the line.
Where your body and genitals become something to, “overpower”, and try and control rather than being a place of pleasure and wisdom.
Or sex with your lover becomes a battle of self control and guilt rather than connection andpleasure.
Masturbation is NOT a “slippery slope”, but you know what is?
Shame and trauma.
Nutting/self-pleasuring– whatever you want to call it is GOOD FOR YOU 🙌🏻
What if instead, you could build a loving, deeply trusting, joyful, luscious, lip-smackingly wonderful relationship with your body and your genitals instead?
With pleasure? With turn on? With your orgasms?
Please, #nutallnovember if it feels good to you.
