Have you hit your wall yet?
Or maybe you’re hitting it for the third or fourth time?
I’ve been speaking with many friends and colleagues, as well as my followers, and they are all saying the same: it’s really not easy right now.
You may have been fine in the first few months, but now everything feels unworkable, is this you?
I’ll be honest: I hit that wall again last week and I’m just easing out of it now.
It’s been hard and vulnerable to admit that as a professional, I still struggle from time to time and need support. Yes, even though I support people for a living and tell people to ask for help. I find it very humbling when I have to take my own medicine.
I know that many of you on this list are also helping professionals of some kind- therapists, nurses, carers, coaches, sexologists, mentors, holistic health practitioners, clergy- you’ll know first hand how hard it is to take our own advice from time to time, isn’t it?!
And yet, every time I do ask for help, it shifts.
I exhale, the world feels brighter, and I start smiling again.
During the pandemic, I have doubled down on my support system so that I am as resourced as possible.
Including:
- My own therapist
- My own trauma coach
- Business mastermind
- Weekly TRE classes
- Nutritionist
- Bodywork
- Supplements
- Regular chats with friends and colleagues
And most importantly: stopping, taking a breath, dancing, and re-orienting to pleasure.
I have gotten my nails done, bought good quality food, invested in quality underwear, bought flowers for the house, bought aromatic room sprays and candles, had more cuddles and touch, spent more time in the sun, spent time in nature.
All these things I sometimes had to drag myself by the ear to do because I knew that when my pleasure cup is topped up, I thrive.
And you deserve to thrive too, even in a crisis.
Yes, even when the news is predicting doom, even when you are worried, even if it feels like the world is coming to an end (it’s not).
When shit hits the fan and it looks like everything is chaos, it’s really easy to get suckered into believing that you must suffer.
Why should you feel good when everything else is collapsing? When kids aren’t being fed? When cases are increasing? When god knows what else is happening?
HOW DARE YOU FEEL GOOD! YOU MUST SUFFER LIKE THE REST OF US!
Does that voice in your head sound familiar? I know it does.
And this is why pleasure in a time of crisis is more essential than ever:
Pleasure is revolutionary and counter cultural.
When you are thriving, topped up, resourced, supported, and glowing, you can make better decisions. You can support others better, you have a clear and level head.
You can hear your intuition better and are less likely to fall for BS.
Don’t wait until things settle down to decide to focus on pleasure.
Don’t put it off until next year when it’s available right now, in the middle of chaos.
