Saying Goodbye To Sex Coach U

I first met Dr. Patti Britton and the late Dr. Robert Dunlap back in 2015, in Jenni Joy’s apartment in London. It was also the day I met my sexological bestie, Sarah Martin.

I was there to write an article for RUDE magazine and to see what sex coaching was all about, as I was thinking of training in it.

By the end of the workshop, I was sold, and a few months later, I had a call with Dr. Robert and I enrolled.

Fast forward to 2016, I was in Poland for 2 live trainings- SAR and ASPEX where I officially had my head and heart blown open. (You can read more here.)

It was at ASPEX, in the middle of the countryside in Poland, that Dr. Robert approached me and asked if I wanted to work for Sex Coach U.

(Also where the trio that is me, Sarah, and Celina Criss was born.)

Little did he or Dr. Patti know, this would be my first paid work, as I was still on disability benefits at the time due to chronic illness, and was still building my life back up again. (Which is why I have little patience with people or media publications who whinge about, “benefits scroungers”- that’s another story.)

Of course, I was a “HELL YES!”

Thus started a long personal and professional journey, working at the heart of the team at Sex Coach U and the World Association of Sex Coaches.

I was with them in 2017 in Prague for the World Association for Sexual Health Congress, where Dr. Robert first got seriously ill. I last saw Dr. Robert at an event at IPS in Warsaw before he passed away. I was sitting in a Starbucks in the Brighton North Laines with Sarah Martin (who was visiting the UK), when she got the call that he had died.

When I started I was the social media manager, then VA for Dr. Patti, and then various other official and non-official roles in the Marketing Team.

If you’ve seen anything visual that Sex Coach U has created- graphics, website, the social media channels, landing pages, some of the copy- it was my hand behind them or that created the originals.

I also hosted the Changemaker Interviews, the Facebook Livestreams, and was the architect behind SCU on Instagram.

I’m so proud that I was part of the team that grew bigger and bigger, to manifest Patti and Robert’s vision to bring sex coaching to the global stage, to have it established as a credible profession in it’s own right, to establish high professional standards, and for the holistic sexological model.

It was working with Sex Coach U that kept my own passion for sexology alive- because you can’t help but be infected by it when you’re surrounded by people who are too- and inspired me to keep going with my own practice and business.

It was also working for them that I learned about my own strengths and weaknesses.

Inara De Luna and Sarah Martin, how they kept their patience when my creative juices were flowing all over the place, is beyond me.

Inara was the structure and stability that I will never to god be able to replicate, to turn the visions and ideas into tangible reality for the company.

My digital skills, creative workflow, and strategy have improved exponentially- and I’m damn proud of that.

Our Marketing Team meetings when we compared our cats were mid-week joy for me.

When the pandemic first kicked off, it was the weekly team calls that became part of my support structure. I am eternally grateful for this.

Now, sadly, my time working for them has finished

It was a very hard decision, but after long covid kicked my arse, I realized I couldn’t spin as many plates anymore as my own work is getting busier.

To my fellow SCU’ers, I will still absolutely be around and in the SCU realm, just not working in a professional capacity anymore.

I am still online, and still have your back.

And if I can pass on some nuggets from my time, it’s these:

• Make as many friends, connections, and colleagues as possible. Network your arse off. Go to events, go to talks, contact people, connect on social media.
• Be PROUD of who you are and what you do. The more you can own that you are a sex coach without embarrassment, others will feel that confidence.
• Always be adapting, be prepared to change direction at any time.
• Invest in your own professional development- books, short courses, conferences, trainings- keep your hand in to keep your passion alive.
• Don’t try and be a cookie-cutter sex coach, shine as yourself, own your niche and specialty, invest in a good coach to help you own your message.

The photo above is of my first ASPEX, and I still have that pair of leggings and top somewhere in my wardrobe.

Also special mention to Kamil Perończyk– my Ninja Sloth Sexologist friend, Randy Melton, and Partycja Wonatowska– my twice ASPEX roomie.
